This 30-mark assessment test is source-based and follows the same format as the Edexcel GCSE examinations, common across the United Kingdom. It covers the Paper 2 exam - ´Building a Business´ from the GCSE syllabus, to include the topics from 2.1-2.2. The test includes a 6-mark Analyse question as well as a 9-mark Justify question. There are a few short multiple choice questions, as well as Explain questions, plus a State and an Outline question as well. The topics covered are also standard for the majority of other GCSE Business qualifications. A further progress test covers the other three topics covered in the paper 2 syllabus, from 2.3-2.5 - and is available to purchase separately now.
A full mark-scheme is included which suggests potential answers and can be useful to show students once they have attempted to answer the exam themselves. It also included suggested grades based on the 9-1 grading system and which is in line with similar exams in previous years.
This new progress test follows the NEW design for examinations in that the non-application questions are in one section a the start - and the application questions, with the source information - are in a separate section.
The progress tests are designed to help schools to track student progress throughout the course - but are NOT meant to replace the use of past paper examinations - which is of course an essential element of final preparations. The idea is for students to learn how to improve on exam technique through the practice of shorter and more manageable progress tests, written in the same format as those of the official examinations.

Buy this series of 5 Evaluate questions for 12 marks, based around a small business from southern Spain. The whole resource pack is HI-produced, from an experienced Head of Department. This links directly with the IGCSE Pearson Edexcel Business course and includes both a detailed suggested Mark-scheme and a separate document which provides skeleton essay responses, using questions to direct students towards improving their exam skills in order to stretch their responses and to ensure that both sufficient application, analysis and evaluation are included in their answers.
It is NOT recommended that students attempt to answer any of the 12-mark questions, which are loosely based on each of the five units, until at least three of the five units have been taught. This is because it is almost inevitable that students will be expected to draw their knowledge and understanding from various units of the two-year course, in order to fully demonstrate their range of comprehension for any of the 12-mark questions.
You can buy the sister set of resources which accompanies this package on the FrankBIZResources TES shop page, covering Paper 2 and Large Businesses.

The Impact of MNCs, Business Ethics & Constraints on MNCs
This student-centred activity is designed to meet the specific requirements of the IAL Edexcel specification for the IA2 Unit 4 examination, covering the impact of Multinationals. It will however neatly cover many key aspects of other UK-based courses covering international business as well.
The concept is basically for students to take on the role of executive leaders of various multinational corporations and organisations, with the aim of looking into how MNCs are positively impacting on various stakeholder groups, as well as peering into aspects of MNC operations which might be harmful to stakeholder interests and the environment generally. In addition the conference should also include a chance to investigate how governments or intra-governmental organisations such as trading blocs, can and do - use their authority to constrain the power and influence of MNCs. Likewise international pressure groups should be represented, which might concentrate on consumer rights or environmental concerns or labour protection - as another potential constraining arm on the power of MNCs operating in a global world.
'The Impact of MNCs on South-East Asia´
This particular topic can be covered in any year, but it might work better for your students to adapt your own conference title to particular hot themes of the moment.
The material includes a series of top tips designed to get your conference off to a flying start. It also includes a warm-up starter activity, which should allow students to see how the role of MNCs can be portrayed, both positively and negatively. In addition a template for an executive conference programme is included here, along with a template for the opening slides of any presentation to open the conference itself.
A list of potential links to help students to begin their research on the theme of MNCs operating in South-East Asia is included here. Finally - a template is included for the production of professional-looking lanyards for all the student ‘conference speakers’, which should add a certain ‘gravitas’ to the way in which the students conduct their presentations during the Executive Conference itself.
